Kampala, Uganda, the country's capital and largest city. It lies in eastern Africa near the Equator, some 3,900 feet (1,190 m) above sea level. Nearby is Lake Victoria. Kampala is well laid out, with broad streets and modern buildings. It is Uganda's chief center of commerce. The principal industries process farm products.
