Da Nang, Vietnam, one of the nation's largest cities and the capital of Quang Nam-Da Nang province, in the central part of Vietnam. While under French rule, from 1857 until 1954, the city was known in the West as Tourane. Da Nang lies on the coast of central Vietnam and fronts on the South China Sea. Serving the city are a large modern seaport, the country's main railway line and main highway, and an airport. Textiles are manufactured here. During the Vietnamese War Da Nang was the site of major United States military bases.
