Malabar Coast, a region on the southwestern coast of India. It includes the state of Kerala and part of the state of Karnataka. European traders were first attracted to India by the spices of the Malabar Coast. Calico cloth was named after Calicut (now Kozhikode), a port here, where Vasco da Gama of Portugal landed in 1498.
