Kunlun Shan, a mountain range in western China. It extends some 1,000 miles (1,600 km) east-west between the Kashmir-China border and western Qinghai province, forming the boundary between the Tibet and Xinjiang regions of China. The Kunlun Shan is rugged and formidable for most of its length, attaining heights of more than 20,000 feet (6,100 m). Muztag Mountain, the highest peak, stands on the Tibet-Xinjiang border, 25,340 feet (7,724 m) above sea level. China's two great rivers, the Huang He and Yangtze, have headwaters in the eastern Kunlun Shan.
