Verdun, Canada, a borough of Montreal and former city in Quebec Province. It is on the south shore of Montreal Island, at the foot of the Lachine Rapids of the St. Lawrence River. The borough has many gardens, parks, and other recreational areas, including a three-mile (5-km) boardwalk along the river. Verdun was founded in 1669 and incorporated as a city in 1912. In 2002, Verdun became a part of the city of Montreal.
