Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the national capital. It is in the northwestern part of Trinidad island on the Gulf of Paria, off the coast of Venezuela. A major Caribbean port, it is also the island's center of manufacturing, trade, and transportation. The chief exports are agricultural products and asphalt. Port of Spain contains many beautiful buildings, parks, and gardens. It has an international airport.

Port of Spain became capital of Trinidad in 1783. It was an important Allied naval base in World War II.
