Reggio di Calabria, or Reggio, or Reggio Calabria, Italy, the capital of Reggio di Calabria province, in Calabria department. Reggio is a port at the tip of Italy's toe, on the Strait of Messina opposite Sicily. Reggio exports fruit, wines, oils, perfumes, and raw silk. The city was an important trade center throughout ancient times. It was twice rebuilt after being completely destroyed by earthquakes (1783 and 1908).
