Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, a city in Jalisco State. It is located at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountains, on the Bay of Banderas on the Pacific coast. The Cuale River runs through the city. Puerto Vallarta is about 400 miles (643 km) west of Mexico City. The city is an internationally famous seaside resort.

Fishing, sailing, snorkeling, swimming, hiking are popular activities. Los Arcos, an underwater nature preserve, is here. Isla Del Rio Cuale, an island in the Cuale River, has restaurants, shops, a botanical garden, and a museum.

Puerto Vallarta has been a port since the 16th century, though the name Puerto Vallarta has been in use only since 1918.
