Capernaum, Galilee, a town frequently mentioned in the New Testament. Jesus spent much of his ministry here. His first three disciples—Peter, Andrew, and Matthew—came from Capernaum, and the town was the scene of many of his miracles. Capernaum was situated on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, in what is now Israel.
