Palestine, an ancient land in southwest Asia on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It is known as the Holy Land of the Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The name Palestine was also applied to the mandated area controlled by Britain from 1922 to 1948.

In ancient times, the area called Palestine extended roughly from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to just beyond the Jordan Valley in the east and from the mountains of Lebanon in the north to the Red Sea in the south.
