Oman, Gulf of, an arm of the Arabian Sea, bordering Iran, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates. It is a funnel-shaped body of water, about 300 miles (480 km) long, up to 200 miles (320 km) wide, and as much as 11,000 feet (3,350 m) deep. At the head of the gulf is the narrow, strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which links the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
