Alexander Archipelago, a group of about 1,100 islands and islets of southeastern Alaska. It stretches for nearly 300 miles (480 km) along the coast of Alaska's Panhandle. The mountainous, densely forested islands have an area of roughly 13,000 square miles (33,700 km2). Prince of Wales, Chichagof, Admiralty, Baranof, Revillagigedo, and Kupreanof are the largest islands. Cities on the archipelago and the adjacent mainland include Juneau (Alaska's capital), Sitka, Ketchikan, and Skagway.
