Clearwater, Florida, the seat of Pinellas County. It lies on the Gulf of Mexico, fronting on Clearwater Harbor and extending eastward to Tampa Bay. Nearby are St. Petersburg and Tampa; the three cities form the core of a large metropolitan area.

Clearwater is primarily a resort and residential city, but it has many light industries. Clearwater Beach, a white sand island four miles (6 km) long, is connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Clearwater began as a settlement that grew up around Fort Harrison and was established in 1841. The city was incorporated in 1891.
