Danville, Illinois, the seat of Vermilion County. Danville is on the Vermilion River, about 120 miles (190 km) south of Chicago. Danville has varied manufacturing industries and is the trade and transportation center for a large agricultural area.
Danville was founded in 1827 and was incorporated in 1839. Abraham Lincoln had a law office here in the 1850's. The city was the home of Joseph G. Cannon, a speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
