Fort Collins, Colorado, the seat of Larimer County. It is 60 miles (97 km) north of Denver on the Cache la Poudre River. The city lies 5,100 feet (1,554 m) above sea level and is surrounded by irrigated farmland. Its products include machine parts and plastics. Large flocks of lambs are brought here to be fattened on locally grown grain. Colorado State University and the headquarters for Roosevelt National Forest are in Fort Collins. The city grew around a military post established in 1864. It was incorporated in 1883.
