Fort Myers, Florida, the seat of Lee County. It is 100 miles (160 km) south-southeast of Tampa on the Caloosahatchee River, near the Gulf of Mexico. Fort Myers is the center of a rapidly developing area whose main economic activities are tourism, commercial fishing, light manufacturing, and the growing of vegetables, fruit and flowers. Thomas A. Edison's winter home, located here, is preserved as a museum.
