Garden City, New York, a city (officially a village) in Nassau County, about 20 miles (32 km) east of downtown New York City. Garden City has a large printing and publishing industry and is a major suburban retailing center. Adelphi University was moved here from Brooklyn in 1929.

Government is by mayor and council.

Garden City was founded around 1870 as one of the nation's first planned residential communities and was incorporated as a village in 1919. Charles A. Lindbergh's 1927 transatlantic flight began at nearby Roosevelt Field, now the site of a shopping center.
