Granite City, Illinois, a city in Madison County. Granite City is six miles (10 km) northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Graniteware (enameled iron kitchenware), sheet metal, tin plate, railway equipment, chemicals, and corn syrup are the city's main products. A large army supply depot is here. There was a settlement on the site of Granite City by 1815, but it did not flourish until the graniteware industry was established here in 1892.
