Greeley, Colorado, the seat of Weld County. Greeley is on the Cache la Poudre River, 52 miles (84 km) northeast of Denver. Greeley is the shipping center for an irrigated farming region. Food processing is the leading industry. Colorado State College is here. Greeley was founded as a cooperative colony in 1870 by Nathan Meeker, an editor of Horace Greeley's New York Tribune. It was incorporated as a city in 1886.
