Geography of Hackensack
Hackensack, New Jersey, the seat of Bergen County. It is a residential and industrial suburb on the Hackensack River near the New York border, 11 miles (18 km) north-northwest of downtown Manhattan. It is a historic city, settled in 1647 by the Dutch. Points of interest include Steuben House Historic Site (1713) and the Church on the Green (1791). The community was named New Barbados until 1921, when the present name was adopted.
