Hamilton, Ohio, an industrial city and the seat of Butler County. It is on the Miami River, 20 miles (32 km) north of downtown Cincinnati. Hamilton is in a farming and dairying region. Its products include paper, automobile bodies, industrial equipment, and metals. Butler County Museum is in Hamilton. William Dean Howells described some of his boyhood here in A Boy's Town (1890). The city was settled on the site of Fort Hamilton, built by General Arthur St. Clair in 1791 while fighting the Indians of the Northwest Territory.
