Haverhill, Massachusetts, a city in Essex County. It is on the Merrimack River 28 miles (45 km) north of downtown Boston. The John Greenleaf Whittier birthplace is preserved as a museum.

Haverhill was settled in 1641 and became a town in 1646. It was the home of Hannah Dustin, who was captured by Indians in 1697 and returned with the scalps of 10 Indians she had killed before escaping.
