Linden, New Jersey, a city in Union County. It borders on the Rahway River and Arthur Kill, 19 miles southwest of downtown Manhattan, New York City. The city has several large oil refineries, and produces motor vehicles, chemicals, paint, varnish, and beverages. Originally a part of Elizabeth, Linden was made a separate township in 1861 and incorporated as a city in 1924.
