Mason City, Iowa, the seat of Cerro Gordo County. It is on the Winnebago River in northern Iowa and serves as a trading and shipping center for a productive farming area. Manufacturing is important, especially the making of brick, tile, and cement. Institutions include the Kinney Pioneer Museum, and the Charles H. MacNider Museum, featuring 19th- and 20th-century American art. The city was platted in 1854 and settled mainly by Masons. It has the mayor-council form of government.
