Massillon, Ohio, a city in Stark County on the Tuscarawas River, 19 miles (31 km) south of Akron. Products include stainless steel, roller bearings, and processed foods. A state psychiatric hospital is here. The Massillon Museum houses collections of folk art and pioneer relics. Settled in 1812, the city grew as an Ohio & Erie Canal station after 1830. A restored section of the canal is in a city park. Government is by mayor and council.
