McAllen, Texas, a city in Hidalgo County. It is in the lower Rio Grande valley near the Mexican border, 55 miles (89 km) west of the Gulf of Mexico. McAllen is a winter resort and the center of an area producing citrus fruit, vegetables, and cotton. It is also a food-processing and manufacturing city. McAllen was settled in 1905.
