New Brunswick, New Jersey, the seat of Middlesex County. It is on the Raritan River about 31 miles (50 km) south of Manhattan Island, New York City. New Brunswick is a commercial center and the seat of some of the largest drug and medical supply houses in the country. Other products include clothing, electrical equipment, and transportation equipment. Most schools of Rutgers University are here.

The site, originally called Prigmore's Swamp, was settled in 1681 by a group led by John Inian, and became known as Inian's Ferry. The present name was adopted in 1724 in honor of King George I, who was also the Duke of Brunswick. During the Revolutionary War New Brunswick was by turns the headquarters of General William Howe and George Washington.
