New Haven is an important industrial center. Products include chemicals, guns, ammunition, hardware, rubber goods, clothing, machinery, and electronic equipment.
Near the heart of New Haven is the historic 16-acre (6.5-hectare) Green, site of three early-19th-century churches. East Rock Park has woodlands and gardens; in West Rock Park is Judges Cave, in which two of the men who had condemned King Charles I hid from the soldiers of his son Charles II. The Winchester Gun Museum has one of the finest firearms collections in the world. Museums on the Yale University campus feature collections of fine art, rare books, natural history, and musical instruments. Many theatrical productions have pre-Broadway tryouts in New Haven.
