New Rochelle, New York, a city in Westchester County. It is on Long Island Sound near the border of the Bronx, New York City. New Rochelle is primarily a residential suburb and the home of many New York City commuters. There are numerous light industries within the city.
Iona College and the College of New Rochelle are here. The Paine Cottage was the home of Thomas Paine, who lived here briefly after returning from Europe in 1802.
New Rochelle was settled in 1688 by Huguenots, who had come from La Rochelle, France. New Rochelle was incorporated as a city in 1899.
