Normal, Illinois, a city in McLean County, in central Illinois. It adjoins Bloomington, the county seat, and lies in a rich agricultural area that produces corn, soybeans, and wheat. Illinois State University was established here in 1857 as a normal school (teachers college). The university is the city's largest employer. Normal was settled about 1840.
