North Tonawanda, New York, a city in Niagara County. It is 11 miles (18 km) north of downtown Buffalo at the junction of the New York State Barge Canal and the Niagara River. Hydroelectric power from Niagara Falls is used by a number of industrial plants; products include chemicals, plastics, paints, and paper. North Tonawanda was settled in 1802 and incorporated as a village in 1856. It was chartered as a city in 1897. It has the mayor-council form of government.
