Geography of Oak Park
Oak Park, Illinois, a residential community in Cook County, eight miles (13 km) west of downtown Chicago. For many years it was known as “the largest village in the world.” (In Illinois a village is a municipality, regardless of size, that is governed by a president and board of trustees.) A number of homes and a Universalist church that were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright are here. Oak Park was settled in the 1830's and incorporated as a village in 1901. Ernest Hemingway was born in Oak Park.
