Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the seat of Winnebago County. It lies on the western shore of Lake Winnebago where the Fox River enters the lake, about 80 miles (130 km) northwest of Milwaukee. The city's industries produce a variety of goods, notably clothing and wood products. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Paine Art Center and Arboretum, and the Oshkosh Museum are here. Oshkosh was founded in 1836. It was named for a Menominee Indian chief.
