Palm Beach, Florida, a town in Palm Beach County that is a winter resort. It is about 65 miles (105 km) north of Miami, on a narrow island between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Worth. Palm Beach has exclusive hotels and shops, and fine fishing, boating, swimming, and golfing. Many prominent families have homes here. Industrialist Henry M. Flagler began developing the settlement as a resort in 1893. Whitehall, his mansion, is now a museum.
