Plainfield, New Jersey, a city in Union County. It lies at the foot of the Watchung Mountains, 24 miles (37 km) southwest of New York City. Although Plainfield is primarily residential, it has some industries. Items produced here include chemicals and electrical equipment. Plainfield was settled by Quakers in 1684.
