, Wisconsin, an industrial city, a port of entry, and the seat of Racine County. It is on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Root River, 23 miles (37 km) south of downtown Milwaukee. Racine has one of the best Great Lakes harbors, and ships lumber, farm products, and manufactured goods. Among the city's products are automobile parts, farm machinery, food products, polishes and waxes, and electric equipment. The Johnson Wax Company Building in Racine, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is noted for its glass and brick laboratory tower. Racine was settled in 1834. Industrial growth came with the improvement of the harbor in the 1840's.
