Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a city in Edgecombe and Nash counties. It is on the Tar River, about 47 miles (76 km) northeast of Raleigh. Rocky Mount is situated in a farming area and is a leading market for cotton and bright-leaf tobacco. It produces textiles, rope and string, cottonseed oil, lumber, metal, and meat and dairy products. Rocky Mount was settled in 1818.
