Rome, Georgia, the seat of Floyd County. It is on the Coosa River, 57 miles (92 km) northwest of Atlanta. Rome is an industrial and trade center. Products include textiles, electrical equipment, carpets, foods, metals, and paper products. Shorter College is in Rome and Berry College in nearby Mount Berry.
The city was founded in 1834 on the site of an Indian village. It was called Rome because—like Rome, Italy—it was built on seven hills.
