Salina, Kansas, the seat of Saline County, about 160 miles (257 km) west of Kansas City. Located in a large cattle- and wheat-producing area, Salina is a prominent livestock market and a flour-milling and grain-storage center. It produces light aircraft, lamps, and feeds. Kansas Wesleyan University and Marymount College are here. Salina was founded in 1856 by Preston B. Plumb and incorporated three years later.
