Santa Rosa,California, the seat of Sonoma County, about 50 miles (80 km) north of San Francisco. Santa Rosa is the trade center for a large wine- and fruit-producing area and has a variety of light manufacturing industries. The house, gardens, and greenhouse of the horticulturist Luther Burbank are preserved on the campus of Santa Rosa Junior College. Santa Rosa has the council-manager form of government.

The city was founded in 1833 by Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo and was incorporated in 1868.
