Sedalia, Missouri, the seat of Pettis County. It lies in west-central Missouri, about 60 miles (97 km) southeast of Kansas City. Sedalia is the trade center for a prosperous agricultural area and has railway repair shops and varied light industries. The Missouri State Fair is held here each August. Sedalia was founded in 1860. It has the mayor-council form of government.
