Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the seat of Sheboygan County. It lies at the mouth of the Sheboygan River on Lake Michigan's shore, about 50 miles (80 km) north of Milwaukee. Sheboygan is a Great Lakes port and a commercial center for a major dairy region. Factories in or near the city produce furniture, plumbing fixtures, food products, plastics, clothing, and leather goods. Lakeland College is here. The city has the mayor-council form of government. Sheboygan was settled in the 1830's, primarily by German immigrants, and was incorporated as a city in 1853.
