St. Cloud, Minnesota, the seat of Stearns County. It is located at the junction of the Mississippi and Sauk rivers, about 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Minneapolis. St. Cloud is a trade center for central Minnesota and is an industrial city, producing scientific instruments, machinery, and paper goods. The processing of dairy and poultry products is also important. St. Cloud State University, founded in 1869, is here.
St. Cloud was founded in 1855. It was named for Saint-Cloud, France.
