Temple, Texas, a city in Bell County, about 60 miles (97 km) north-northeast of Austin, the state capital. Temple is the marketing and commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area. Manufactured here are furniture, plastics, clothing, insulation, and foods. Temple's medical center is internationally known. The Santa Fe Railroad laid out the city in 1880; incorporation came in 1882.
