Valdosta, Georgia, the seat of Lowndes County. It is 12 miles (19 km) north of the Florida state line and about 65 miles (105 km) east-northeast of Tallahassee, Florida. Valdosta is an important shipping point for the tobacco, cotton, peanuts, pecans, and truck crops raised in the surrounding area. Manufactured products include pulp and paper, textiles, and clothing. Valdosta State College is here and Moody Air Force Base is nearby. Valdosta was founded in 1860.
