Waukesha, Wisconsin, the seat of Waukesha County. It is on the Fox River, 18 miles (29 km) west of downtown Milwaukee. The city has machine shops, foundries, and food-processing plants. It is the home of Carroll College and a branch of the University of Wisconsin. The city was formerly a mineral springs resort. Waukesha was settled in 1834 and incorporated in 1895.
