Wausau, Wisconsin, the seat of Marathon County. Wausau is on the Wisconsin River, 157 miles (253 km) northwest of Milwaukee. The city is a dairy center, and makes paper, metal goods, and other products. Near the city is Rib Mountain, a resort for winter sports. Wausau was settled in 1839 and incorporated in 1872.
