Wheaton, Illinois, the seat of Du Page County. It is 25 miles (40 km) west of downtown Chicago, of which it is a residential suburb. Wheaton College, opened in 1856, is here. Nearby are the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and the spacious grounds of the Morton Arboretum. Wheaton is the birthplace of industrialist Elbert Gary. It was settled in 1830 and incorporated in 1859.
