Whittier, California, a city in Los Angeles County, about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Whittier produces a variety of manufactured products. The surrounding area has oil fields and grows citrus fruits, avocados, and walnuts. Whittier College was attended by Richard M. Nixon, who grew up in the city. Whittier was founded by Quakers in 1887 and has the world's largest Quaker meeting House. The city was incorporated in 1898.
