McKinley, Mount, the highest mountain in North America. It is twin-peaked and rises 20,320 feet (6,194 m) above sea level. From its base to its summit, Mount McKinley rises some 19,000 feet (5,800 m), forming one of the most spectacular mountains in the world. Ice and snow cover much of the mountain all year; numerous glaciers descend its slopes. The summit was first reached by mountain climbers in 1913.

Mount McKinley is in the Alaska Range of south-central Alaska. It is named after President William McKinley and is in Denali National Park and Preserve. The preserve, at the base of the mountain, is the habitat of grizzly bears, Dall sheep, moose, caribou, and other wild animals.
